Bullock Cart

In transporting goods the load that a man can carry is limited by his strength. By harnessing
a strong animal to a cart, much heavier loads can be transported.

Thus, bullock carts came into use for transporting heavy loads of all types of goods, including
rice, sugar, oil, spices, fruits, furniture, charcoal, soya sauce and even water.

Here is a picture of the bullock cart sculpture on the river bank near Cavenagh Bridge. The
bullock cart was a common sight on the banks of the Singapore River as trade increased.
