Re-trievia and junk mail

One compliment seemed, on hindsight, a little left-handed (backhanded?) – the colleague said it is better to receive NIE e-mail about re-trievia than to receive email from departing colleagues about sale of used cars and household goods!

That is, re-trievia is one level better than junk-mail.

This left-handed compliment reminds me of the old story about the former Prime Minister of Britain, Mrs Margaret Thatcher, an alumnus of Oxford University, describing Cambridge University as being one level better than abnight-club! So, I guess I can’t complain about retrievia being regarded as onebclass above junkmail and spam-mail.

It might be Margaret Thatcher is an alumnus of Cambridge and made the nightclub remark about Oxford — or is it the other way round — I sometimes get the facts mixed up but the moral of the story is there …..

Note:
An esteemed colleague has confirmed that it is correct that the “Iron Lady” (and we don’t mean Ironing Lady in this case) was an Oxford alumnus and, of course, like other Oxford folks (Oxonians), pretty proud of their university. He says he bought a t-shirt from Oxford that proclaims, “Those who can, do; those who can’t, go to Cambridge.”
