The stamp of the Chemistry Nobel Prize

This 100th anniversary stamp set contains some unusual features. Take a close look at the Chemistry stamp. It represents a Carbon 60 molecule and is printed with thermochromic ink.

From your knowledge of words, you know that ‘thermo’ refers to heat/ temperature while ‘chromic’ refers to colour.

This particular stamp looks different depending on whether ‘cold’ or ‘warm’. When it is ‘cold’, you will see a white net on a black pentagon background. To make it ‘warm’, put your finger on the stamp. Heat is transferred from the finger to the stamp, revealing the Carbon particle trapped within the net.
