King Edward VII (1841-1910)

When Queen Victoria died in 1901, her son was crowned as King Edward VII at the age of 60. He reigned for nine years until 1910.

Edward VII was known to be a hunting buff. At Sandringham House, a countryside retreat used by the Royal Family, King Edward VII ordered that all clocks be set half an hour forward so that he could spend more time hunting! Of course, this caused a lot of confusion in other parts of the country. This practice was stopped after his death.

Did you know that King Edward VII has a part in the history of the National University of Singapore? In 1921, the Straits and Federated Malay States Government Medical School was renamed the King Edward VII College of Medicine.
