The New Parliament House

The new Parliament House, built in 2002, is located next to the Arts House (the former Parliament Building).  Standing on the north bank of the Singapore River, it commands a panoramic view of this river and the skyscrapers on the south bank.  This new Parliament building was designed by a team of architects from the Public Works Department (PWD) and consists of a restored colonial building (the former Attorney-General’s Chambers) and three new blocks.

The main building, with its distinctive mansard roof houses the Parliamentary chambers.  A new landmark, in terms of Singapore’s geography and history, the new Parliament House stands proudly with its older neighbours: the Supreme Court and City Hall.  It occupies the site where some of the oldest godowns on the Singapore River used to stand.
